Operational Risk Management (ORM)

Managing operational risk includes the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation or acceptance of operational risk. Not only does this make abundant sense for the organization's stakeholders, in the financial services industry for example, effective management is also necessary in view of capital adequacy requirements from banking regulators for operational risk events.

Where does your organization stand on the operational risk pyramid? Please get in touch if you would like us to:

Our ORM Expertise and Experience for your Advantage

Over the last 17 years, we have gained invaluable practical experience in the areas of technology implementation, operations, service centres and offshoring, business continuity and disaster recovery, risk control and operational risk management. For example:

  • Setting up risk control functions. Pratibha's last role in Deutsche Bank London was to set up the operational risk and control function for the European middle office and financial control divisions of the bank's derivatives business. This included engaging key stakeholders to get a complete picture of risk areas and operational risk events in their functions, conducting monthly risk reviews providing senior management with a heat-map of risk areas and required mitigation and reviewing of new business approvals to assess impact on operations.
  • Building the operational risk management framework. On assignment from Germany to Deutsche Bank India as the Head of ORM, Pratibha was responsible for building a framework to provide Group ORM and regional management with a clear view of operational risk events and monthly operational risk reports for the India operations.
  • Rolling out business continuity platforms and conducting disaster recovery. In her role with the business continuity team with Deutsche Bank in Germany, Pratibha engaged in the design and was responsible for the European implementation of a global business continuity platform following up with a key disaster recovery test of the Frankfurt trading data center.
  • Managing technology implementations and service center operations. Starting her career in the software unit of Deutsche Bank, Pratibha has developed and implemented straight through processing solutions in the core banking operations of the bank's Continental European branches. This was followed with a role in Germany to manage payment processing projects requiring close interaction with both the branch operations teams and the Indian partner to deliver successful implementations. Wolfgang has piloted offshore application development for Deutsche Bank's core banking system out of India back in 1997/98. He later set up SAP offshore application development and maintenance at Capgemini India for the Central European front offices - thereby always balancing the requirements of bringing down business continuity risk by distributing the team across various locations in India and efficient distributed offshore delivery.

Our education spans from engineering and informatics all the way to business administration and strategic management. We are hands-on and can advise on operational risk challenges on the ground just as well as we are strategic and can conduct a business impact analysis, work with the disaster scenario planning methodology and establish disaster recovery objectives for your organization.
